Stress

Recently, we wrote an article about How Stress Can Wreak Havoc on Your Body. Considering that we are living in a fast-paced world, stress is as common as the air we breathe. I have been known to get stressed out from time-to-time. Usually I cope by bingeing on episodes of 90 Day Fiancé and eating a pile of Doritos Late Night Fully Loaded Nachos, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this method. Instead, you have to learn to manage your everyday routines and fight off these problems that will eventually stress you out. Before you can cope with it, it’s essential to understand what stress really is and identify how it can appear in our life.

Celebs like Zendaya and the beloved Riverdale star Lili Reinhart offer their take on how to deal with stress for Flare Magazine.

What is Stress?

Stress can be easily defined as the imbalance in our physiological, biological and social aspect in our life. There are many reasons why a person gets stressed: family problems, financial difficulties, career obligations, or a quarrel between friends. Though how minor it may seem, these problems all add up to turn into an inconvenience, and a big one at that.

Incidentally, stress can start from anywhere and can also end in another way. Some may start from your body due to overwork or, build up mentally which can affect that way you think which can practically lead to negative results. The first way to deal with stress is find out the cause and determine ways to get rid of it.

Stress Management 101

When you already have an idea on how stress worked your way into your life, there are plenty of solutions to make it go away. Just keep in mind that the simplest solutions to your problems are always the best way in dealing with it.

When suffering from stress due to overwork, you can easily take some time off and let your body rejuvenate. If you are able to afford it, treat yourself to a massage or visit your local spa and start pampering yourself. Another method of getting the stress out of your system is to take some time off from your daily routine and take a vacation. Visit friends and relatives and have fun shopping or taking some leisure walks around the mall.

A vacation with nature can be a great relief to stress; the serenity and relaxing scenery can do wonders to your mental and emotional state. Camp out and leave your thoughts about work at home, give yourself a break from all those burdens.

There are also some apps available to help with stress. Check out the Headspace meditation app, Stop, Breathe and Think, and Calm to get started.

Sick Woman in Hospital Bed

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]America is a free country, a wealthy country, a capitalistic country, a democratic country, American citizens have rights that citizens of many other countries have never known. Yet, despite all our wealth and all our rights, many Americans are sick, very sick. Chronic illnesses and disease are at epidemic levels and a lack of healthcare is a very real issue for most.

There are various reasons for not having health insurance, but the main reason from which all other reasons stem is money. Many people just do not have the money it takes to pay for a substantial health insurance policy. People can generally get a good deal on health insurance if they purchase it through their employers, but not everyone is employed or works for a company that offers health benefits, and individual health insurance policies are much more expensive than the group insurance policy rates employers offer.

Health care is expensive, and health insurance is supposed to help cut the cost of health care; however, while health insurance does help us pay for health care, is heath insurance itself too expensive? For many, the answer is yes. If you work for an employer who doesn’t offer health insurance, are self-employed, or just otherwise can’t afford health insurance, don’t give up, let’s look at some options that may be right for you.

Stethoscope Cut Out Family

There are a variety of options when choosing health insurance, however, the main purpose of health insurance is to provide the “insured” with financial coverage that will help pay for the cost of care during thee sickness. Health insurance may also cover things such as hospital beds, lab tests, medicine, surgeries, x-rays, and more. Health Insurance will pay the cost of medical expenses due to sickness, illnesses, accidents, and childbirth. Each health insurance policy is different, and it is recommended to determine what types of services will be covered when choosing and comparing health insurance plans. The most common type of Health Insurance is Private Sector Health Insurance. Health Insurance varies from life insurance in a few ways. First, health insurance is purchased annually, and there is no guarantee that premium costs will not rise with each renewal policy.

Before you can qualify for medical insurance, you will more than likely need to undergo a series of routine tests. These tests will screen out any underlying conditions that may require you to need more medical services. Based upon the results of the tests, you may or may not qualify for medical insurance.

Unfortunately, many today are facing life without any insurance at all. There are many plans available and many different service providers and brokers that offer a wide variety of health care coverage to qualified individuals. For those who cannot afford to pay the premium cost of health insurance, they may qualify to receive government insurance through their state. The two programs run by the United States government are Medicare and Medicaid. Some local counties may also offer free healthcare to uninsured people through programs that are either federally funded or working on grant monies.

Many people are discovering that they cannot afford the premium price of the healthcare plans that are offered by their place of employment. This does not mean that they have no options available. The first step in determining whether you can afford your company’s health care insurance is to speak with your Human Resource department and see if there is a plan that they offer that meets your needs. You also have the option of researching several insurance brokers and agents online. This is a great way to find a free quote and get in touch with different brokers easily. By simply filling out a small questionnaire over the Internet, you will then receive a return phone call by brokers or agents who are interested in signing you to a policy.

It is important that you choose your health insurance plan carefully. Your plan is a legal binding contract and you have many rights to medical services and covered costs once you enter into this agreement. You should know your rights and understand the terms of your policy plan. Since most people agree that quality health insurance is the most important benefit that companies offer their employees it is necessary that you take the time to read the literature that pertains to your policy plan.

To get started on finding health insurance options that may be right for you it is extremely important to speak with knowledgeable professionals. Do your research of course, but always take the time to speak with knowledgeable professionals, they are there to help you. Extreme Nursing Shortage

Hospital Waiting Room

Registered nurses are trained to care for patients while also assessing medical conditions and administering treatment and medications. They are employed in hospitals, physician’s offices, long term care facilities and as home health aides. Nurses are becoming an increasingly more important part of the healthcare system due to rising costs and growing demand. With the increasing need for nurses in the coming decades, it seems that the United States cannot produce enough nurses to fill the supply.

Healthcare careers are the fastest growing occupation in the country, and nursing tops the charts as the fastest growing occupation within the healthcare field. Why, then, are prospective nursing students being turned away from nursing schools? In the last year that statistics were available, it was estimated that nearly 16,000 students who were qualified to attend a nursing program were turned away. One reason for the shortage of registered nurses is the lack of faculty to instruct and train prospective nursing students. With a vacancy rate over 8 1/2% and rising, the faculty shortage limits the number of students who can become nurses.

Faculty shortages are not the only reason that prospective students are turned away from nursing schools. Budget constraints have limited school’s abilities to update classrooms and lab equipment. There is a shortage of clinical opportunities for students in many areas. While the state and federal government have taken aggressive steps to recruit nurses in advance of the growing need, with tuition help and improvement of working conditions, their efforts are stymied by the inability of colleges to meet the demands of a growing healthcare crunch.

Lack of faculty is a main factor in nursing shortage.

In what is probably the biggest determining factor in how many students are accepted by a school, there are simply not enough nurses teaching at the college level. While some nursing classes, such as core mathematics and chemistry classes do not require a nurse, others do. In fact, a certain percentage of the positions requiring a nurse require that the nurse have a doctorate degree. In contrast, the number of nurses who are seeking their doctorate degree is relatively small. It is estimated that many of the unfilled faculty positions are those that require doctoral education.

Why the shortage of nurses with doctorate degrees? While receiving your doctorate in any field is an accomplishment, it is a simple fact that a nurse can become a nurse anesthetist, a midwife, or a nurse practitioner and make a larger salary and be in heavy demand. Even nursing faculty positions that require only a master’s program must compete with the lucrative positions available in the private sector. Nursing specialists are widely used in many communities to provide care for those without access to a physician. These nurses are RNs, with their bachelor and master’s degree. As a certified nurse practitioner, the nurse has a great deal of autonomy in her practice and is well compensated.

Because of the specialized nature of the degree, nurses that wish to receive their doctorate must often leave the area where they are and move to a more urban area. At the completion of their training, they often do not return. Many of the nurses that complete a doctorate program, as many as one-fourth, state at graduation that they have no plans to work in academics, and head straight to the clinical setting.

In the past, nursing instructors received a more competitive salary, but as the demand for nurses has increased in the private sector, their salaries have quickly outpaced the salaries of those in education. Now, as more nursing instructors reach retirement age, there is no one to fill their positions. Often nurses who have spent their entire careers in the educational setting enter the clinical setting to raise their income before retirement age.

What can be done?

The shortage of nursing faculty is a well documented and studied problem. With the demand for nurses increasing rapidly, it is important to find a way to increase the number of nurses who can be trained. Some plans are in place to help remedy the nursing shortage. Federal funds are being used for faculty development programs and to collect data on faculty vacancy rates.

Approaching Retirement

With many nursing instructors reaching retirement age, the problem of nursing faculty shortages is not expected to go away. The problem creates a vicious cycle, with a growing demand for nurses in the clinical setting raising salaries and benefits. This draws even more nurses out of the academic setting. The shortage of faculty leads to a decrease in the number of students who are accepted into nursing programs. Again, this creates a greater shortage. It is estimated that the nursing shortage, in the clinical setting only, will grow by 6% a year. This shortage can be traced back to the shortage of nursing faculty members.

Why You Need to Warm Up Before Exercising

Since a lot of people are involved in physical exercises, it is imperative to discuss warming up before intensive exercise.

Stretch

Since a lot of people are involved in physical exercises, it is imperative to discuss warming up before intensive exercise. Many have repeatedly ignored going through the warm up stage before working out, not knowing the consequences in doing so.

The Benefits of Warming Up

Why warm up? Several changes take place in the body once physical activity is initiated. A person’s respiratory rate, blood flow, and oxygen and nutrient levels delivered to the cells increases. The rate of increase should be regulated in a steady pace to prepare the body for the physical stress that exercise will demand. If one foregoes this priming procedure, the body will function less efficiently, and the workout will produce less quality results. Warming up preps up the nervous system, heightens mental awareness and alertness, and loosens up joints and muscles to make them less prone to injuries. Warm ups jump starts the fluid located in the joints, minimizing the risk for wear and tear of the muscles. It gives the heart a suitable period to adjust and pump up blood and nutrients into muscles.

This is vital for older people, since they have tissues that are less supple; they have joints with less fluid, and weaker hearts. Sudden exercise can produce heart attacks to older people.

Quad Stretch

How to Warm Up Correctly

How does a person warm up properly? Initially, it can be done in any procedure that enables the heart to beat faster. One can simply walk and jog, or if a cardiovascular equipment is available, such as rowing machine or a bicycle, it can be utilized. Start at a gentle pace, and then slowly increase the pace until heart beat rate increases and the body temperature rises. It is important to note that the pace should be in accordance to one’s current fitness level, where the activity will leave the person energized and not exhausted.

Stretching

The Importance of Dynamic Stretching

After working up a light sweat (suggested time is 3-5 minutes, longer if the person is working out in a cold environment) one should do dynamic stretching. Stretching helps in developing overall flexibility, particularly in the spine, shoulder, and hip areas. The kind of stretching depends on the type of activity a person plans to engage to. For instance, if one is about to play sports, the recommended kind of stretching would be the ones that mimics the movements that will be done in the court or field. If one is about to do martial arts, light sparring can be done in the quarter of the normal speed, or just simply do the movements in slow motion. Be certain that the major muscles groups are stretched for 8 seconds minimum. It is necessary to remember to keep feet moving or do leg exercises whenever the upper body is stretched to keep prevent blood from pooling in the legs. Remember, one should only do stretching if the muscles are already warmed up. Do not bounce while stretching. It leads to a contraction that can result in muscle tear or pull.

Tips for Weight Lifters

For weight-lifters, this is what should be done after the initial warm up. Load the bar with about 50-60% of the heaviest weight to be done for the session and perform the number of repetitions that will be done for the heavy sets. For the second set, the weight will be increased to 80%, then eventually to 90%, decreasing to 2-3 repetitions. Afterwards, rest for about 30 seconds, then repeat the steps. After this warm up, one can now proceed to the heavy lifting for the day. The advantage of doing the procedure is that the heavy sets will feel less daunting and can now be performed with considerably less stress.

Warmup

Don’t Forget the Cool Down

After warming up and proceeding to the main workout, it is equally important to cool down. When a person suddenly stops exercising or lifting weights, blood gathers in the muscle and oxygen is blocked. When this happens, a person runs the risk of having a heart attack. As a result, cooling down should have the same importance as warming up.

Exercise is good for the health. Everyone is encouraged to pump it up, just remember to learn all the necessary precautions not only to maximize the workout, but also to stay safe and healthy.
